Dog Island Run

Saturday, June 7, 2008

10K Run (6.2 miles) starts at 10:45 am, School House Park, Guemes Island, Washington 98221

Two mile (3.2K) walk starts at 10:55 am.

Thank you for your interest in the 11th Annual Dog Island 10K Run/2 Mile Walk on Guemes Island! We are located approximately 80 miles north of Seattle.

Proceeds from our event go to benefit our volunteer operated Guemes Island Library.

The 10-k course (below) is quite scenic with views of the San Juan Islands, boats, beach front, and wildlife. While there are some hills on the course, the deep forest stillness contrasting with sweeping ocean views makes for a truly unique running experience.

Run competitively, our current 10K record holder completed the course in just over 33 minutes! Most runners complete our course in less than one hour. The 2 Mile Walk event is also available for individuals and family members who want to get in on the fun of the event at a less strenuous pace. Porta Potties and water stations are located at different points on the 10K and 2 Mile courses, as well as at the park.

Since there is limited parking on the island, we encourage all participants and their families to board the ferry as "walk-ons" - once you arrive on the island, a free shuttle bus transfers participants and their families to the starting point of the race, at School House Park, approximately 2 miles from the ferry dock.

The free shuttle bus also returns participants and family back to the ferry dock at the end of the event. In past years, some participants have simply chosen to take their bicycles on the ferry and ride to the park.

Trophies are given to the top mens and ladies finishers. Award ribbons are given to mens/ladies 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each of 7 age groups. The awards ceremony is followed by a random prize drawing with gifts/prizes made available by Guemes Island and Anacortes artists and merchants. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy yourself at the park!

A portion of the Dog Island Run 10K Course will be run on gravel due to necessary road repairs taking place at this time.
