Weeknight Ferry Hours To Be Extended

LineTime Asks

Steve Cox, Ferry manager replies 11.18.5

Is it true that Don Munks has directed that an extended ferry schedule be put into effect January 1?

We will put an extended schedule in place as soon we can
finish bargaining the effects with the IBU.

How late would the ferry run? We are looking at a Sunday schedule.
How often after 6 pm would it run? Probably on a Sunday schedule.
Is this a permanent change? We want to evaluate this for two years to see how it will be used by the rider ship and get good data.
How many new crew persons will need to be hired? This is part of the IBU bargaining.
What effect will this have on fares since it would seem to add
significant costs of operations?
The fares will remain what have been approved and will be evaluated as needed by the Director of Public Works who will make recommendations to the BOCC.
What effect will an extended schedule have on haulouts and maintenance cycles? The haul out schedule will remain the same as will some maintenance, although with the new engines we anticipate a longer time between overhaul per Cummins. With old engines we got approximately 16000 to 18000 hours between overhauls. With these new engines I am told by Cummins that I should get approximately 25000 to 30000 hours of operation between major overhauls. This means that we will be able to change engines out at haul outs rather that some interim time thus minimizing down time.
