Would
you please help us clarify a few aspects of the stowage policy?
Presumably only
walk-on passengers would be charged a stowage fee.
What types of
objects will incur the fee? Wheelbarrow? Shopping cart? Wagon? Luggage? |
The stowage
fee was discussed at the Task Force and ended up on the Resolution. I have
been looking long and hard at this issue. The folks who have frequent user
cards will not be charged stowage fees if they bring on their own materials,
wheel barrows, etc. Luggage? Will not be charged. |
| Is
there a standard definition (weight or dimensions) for objects that will
require a fee? |
No. Because
folks will be responsible for their own luggage or objects. |
| Will
everyone with a bicycle be charged the $1 surcharge for the bicycle? |
No. Folks
with frequent user cards will not be charged. |
| Since
January 1, 2006 have any passengers been charged a stowage fee or bicycle
surcharge? |
There
have not been to my knowledge. |
| How
is this information made available to passengers? |
I will
be changing the Resolution to assist Islanders who have frequent user media. |
LineTime
asked a follow up question on January 24 and received Steve's response February
2. |
| Does
the policy to not charge passengers using frequent user media a stowage
or bicycle fee mean that you will be charging the fee to those with a bicycle
or wheelbarrow who are paying a cash fare? |
I will
be working on an Amendment to the Resolution dealing with fares. The stowage
fee criteria was to be addressed by the Task Force but was tabled to be
discussed later. It never was. I have tried to come up with an idea of stowage
and what constitutes a charge and type. I am going to go forward with trying
to remove this fee. |
