Guemes Ferry Out of Service

Steve Cox announced Monday that repairs are going well and car ferry service should resume late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Steve Cox, Skagit County Ferry manager, the ferry made a hard landing on the Guemes Island side during the 8:30 run Saturday evening with loose control of the No. 1 engine and limped back to Anacortes on its remaining engine. Divers inspected the boat and discovered the propellor was missing from the No. 1 shaft.

The ferry will go into dry dock at Dakota Creek Sunday evening. The County has a spare propellors but they must be laboriously fitted. While more will be known once it is hauled out, the ferry potentially could be out of service for several days.

Divers will attempt to recover the lost propellor for repair.

The Strait Arrow will provide passenger-only service while the ferry is out.
