Friends of Guemes Island Urges Islanders
To Boycott Weeknight Guemes Island Ferry Runs

Effective July 6, 2006: Friends of Guemes Island encourages all island residents and visitors to immediately participate in a boycott of all Guemes Island ferry runs after 5:45 pm on Monday through Thursday evenings.

We must send a clear message to Skagit County.

The purpose of this boycott is to demonstrate to Skagit County that Guemes Island does not want and does not need this new service, which will waste limited county resources and destroy the rural character of Guemes Island. We intend to hold the county to its word to discontinue the “trial period” of late runs if it isn’t needed and is losing money.

Friends of Guemes Island encourages all ferry users to:

Ride as if there are no late weeknight hours.

Please make your travel plans to avoid any weeknight use of the ferry after the 5:45 pm run. With the elimination of the regular 6 pm run, we recognize that some island commuters are now being forced to take the 6:30 pm Ferry. FGI understands this dilemma, and understands that some residents will need to take this first late run boat. If you can’t make the 5:45 boat, please restrict your later trip to the 6:30 boat.

Please tell your friends, relatives and neighbors about this boycott.
