Re: Skagit County
Cash Handling Policies Meeting
Dear Ms. Brummett:
This letter is a
follow-up to the recent County committee meeting on cash handling policies.
The County treasurer, Katie Jungquist, suggested that we contact you
in regards to obtaining a copy of the minutes of that meeting.
The Guemes Island
Ferry Committee has been working with the Public Works Department for
over two years on ways to mitigate the cost of operation resulting from
problems in the cash handling procedures. The solution selected by Public
Works, to add a 4th crew member, has increased the annual operating
cost approximately $190,000 per year.
The Ferry Committee
met with Katie Jungquist on August 5th to discuss the cash handling
policies since we understood (at that time) that they were promulgated
by the Treasurer’s office. She informed us at that time that a
joint County committee resolved such issues but she would take our proposal
forward to the committee. At the October 18th meeting we understand
that the committee elected not to change the current policies.
We are still very
concerned with cost of ferry operation and would appreciate learning
about why the County does not wish to implement the proposed cash handling
policy language which would permit cost saving in the ferry operation.
A copy of the minutes of the meeting and any other enlightenment would
much appreciated.
Respectfully,
Guemes Island Ferry
Committee
