5/9/05

Dear Skagit County Board of Commissioners,

At the Skagit County Commissioners meeting on Monday, May 2, 2005 a proposal to extend the current Guemes Island ferry service was presented by Chal Martin, Director of Skagit County Public Works. This proposal submitted by the Skagit County Citizens for Professional Transportation Management notes that more than 125 Guemes Island residents are included in this group.

When asked by a Guemes resident who attended the meeting for documentation of the claim that 125 residents of Guemes Island are represented by this group, the Skagit County Public Works Department responded with the following written statement:

“neither the Ferry Manager Steve Cox nor the Assistant Director/Assistant County Engineer Steve Flude have seen or received a copy of the list of one hundred and twenty five residents of Guemes Island who are stated to be part of the non-incorporated citizen group of Skagit County property owners and tax payers who comprise the Skagit County Citizens for Professional Transportation Management.”

This matter has been referred to the Guemes Island Ferry Committee for follow up and we are requesting your response to the following questions:

Was this proposal indeed brought to the Board of Commissioners by the Director of Public Works without verification of the claims made within the document about Island resident representation?

Will the Commissioners please provide documentation to the GIFC that this proposal does actually represent one hundred and twenty five residents of Guemes Island and the names of those individual so that we may validate this information?

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter and we look forward to a timely response to our request.

Sincerely,

The Guemes Island Ferry Committee
