Start of the 10k run.

Start of the two mile walk

After a gray and gloomy morning of drizzle and fog, the sun emerged victorious for 154 participants who either ran the 10K course or completed the 2 mile walk at the 11th Annual Dog Island Run on Guemes Island.

Participants came from near and far, many from Anacortes and surrounding areas, as well as a man from Canada by way of Uruguay. In the 10K Run, the only timed event, most participants completed the course in a little under one hour. Escorted to the finish line by Guemes Island's Anne Casperson, driving her all electric car "Lady Bug," the overall winner in the men's division, was Jeff Hambleton, who completed the course in a blistering 39 min - 32 seconds. Not to be outdone, the 1st place winner for the ladies was Lauren Obryan with an outstanding time of 43 min - 42 seconds. Remaining times for each of the 10K participants will be posted soon, so please check back to our website for further details.

The Guemes Island Library Board and Skagit Runners would like to thank the countless number of dedicated volunteers who helped out today to make this year's event the fantastic success that it was. Stay tuned for a list of volunteers*, many/most of whom are your friends and neighbors!

We also want to thank the folks at Skagit Running Club for 11 years of technical assistance and man/woman power, as well as our friends at Chandler's Square Retirement Community, for 11 straight years of support, providing bus shuttle service to participants from the ferry landing to the park, all of our sponsors, and the Guemes Island Fire Department for their assistance doing traffic control, and providing aide in the event of medical emergency.

We want to thank all the members of the Guemes Island Library Board, island volunteers, friends, and family, and all the folks who were on hand to help. The Dog Island Run is truly a community gig, and one that not only supports island activities, but also brings us together, like a big family, year after year. Many of the participants this year commented that the Dog Island Run has become a favorite, simply because, unlike other events, ours has a kind of "friendly, community feel." But that's really just the way we do things on Guemes Island.

Thank you one and all. See you next year for the 12th Annual Dog Island Run.
