New Ferry Schedule and Loading Procedures on March 1?

Commissioners postpose implementation of Task Force Schedule to March 1, 2007.

We forwarded our questions (below) with comment to Chal Martin, Public Works Director and the Skagit County Commissioners on Friday morning, February 18 but have not received a reply. However, it is clear that Public Works intends to delay implementation of the schedule developed by the Task Force and signed by the Commissioners one year ago. Public Works has put on the Comissioners' agenda for Tuesday, February 22 a resolution:

"22. Resolution amending Resolution No. R20040339 regarding the Guemes Island Ferry Departure Schedule Effective Date. The date will be changed to become effective from March 1, 2005 to March 1, 2007."

Questions addressed to Steve Flude, Skagit County Public Works and Steve Cox, Ferry Manager:

Last we heard the Commissioners set March 1 as the date for implementing the ferry schedule prepared by the Scheduling and Fares Task Force and adopted by the Commissioners.

Will this schedule, originally set to start June 2004 and delayed twice, be finally implemented in March?

The Ferry Committee announced in a recent meeting that March 1 was also the date set for returning to a 3-person crew. Rumor has it that this will necessitate significant changes in loading procedures. Would you please describe what those changes will be?

My understanding of the Task Force conclusions was that the 20 minute runs set in the new schedule require 4 crew persons to accomplish. How do you plan to reconcile this?

Steve Flude responds, "Stay tuned. Information will be promulgated within the next week or so." [2.14.05]

After asking again for something more since March 1 is just two weeks away, LineTime received this reply from Steve Flude, "We are working on a comprehensive informational package. You'll be informed at the time everyone else is. We're doing our best here to make sure we have accurate information before circulating anything." [2.14.05]
