Guemes Ferry Service Restored

Manson has just informed us that we not only can run the 1pm today but will be able to run the regular ferry on the regular schedule for the rest of the day and obviously from then on as they are done using the slip. Sorry about such short notice but any runs I can get to run the vehicle ferry, I will take. We will be securing the WARRIOR to meet the new schedule.

Steve Cox, Ferry Manager [12.15.04]

On Wednesday, December 15th, 2004 there will be a 1:00 PM regular car ferry run.

On Thursday, December 16th, 2004 normal car ferry service will, at last, be restored.

Thank you.

SCPW [12.14.04]

Manson Construction will be in the slip today, Tuesday from 7 AM to 5 PM. Manson will be working tomorrow, Wednesday, starting at 7 AM, allowing a 1:00 PM Ferry, and out of the slip by 5 PM. This will be Manson’s last on site working day. Normal ferry operation will resume uninterrupted starting Thursday Dec 16 at 6:30 am.

Any questions, please contact Steve Cox or the Ferry Dock.

Revised Temporary Car Ferry Sailings [11.18.04]

The latest schedule provided by our Contractor indicates the following sailing schedule through December. [Schedule updated 12.14.04]

Due to the ferry terminal repair project occurring at both the Guemes and Anacortes terminals, the following schedule will take place. During times when the ferry is not in service, passenger only service will be provided based upon the regularly published schedule.

Normal ferry service and schedule

Please contact Steve Cox at 360-336-9400 with any questions you may have.

For November 16th, 17th, and 18th the M/V Guemes will have the following schedule:

The ferry can run its 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM and 7:55 AM runs, along with the 1 PM, 4:35 PM, 5:05 PM, 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. This will hold for the dates of 16th, 17th, and 18th of November.

This schedule was confirmed with our Contractor just this morning.

Also, it appears, based upon the latest progress schedules, that work will continue on this project until 23 DEC 2004. This means, of course, that there will be an abbreviated service schedule just as we've had for the last several weeks.

There is a bit of good news: No work will be performed on the 25th and 26th of November. So, normal M/V Guemes schedules will be provided.

There have not been any design mistakes or mispositioned dolphins. What there has been, though, are normal issues that arise during construction projects. And, I might add, that our Project Manager has done an outstanding job coordinating the work with the contractor, our crew, and keeping everyone informed.

Also, please keep in mind that we are doing our level best at passing on all pertinent information to our riders and crew just as soon as we possibly can. The situation is somewhat fluid and we're working very closely with our contractor to keep the inconvenience to our ridership as minimal as possible. [11.15.4]

Steve Flude at Public Works, says, "Beginning today and ending Thursday, we are able to expand regular ferry service. Below is the schedule as coordinated with our contractor.

Good news, our contractor will be anchoring in a position that will not cause so much interference with the ferry schedule. The ferry can run its 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM and 7:55 AM runs, along with the 1 PM, 4:35 PM, 5:05 PM, 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. This will hold for the dates of 9th, 10th, and 11th of November." [11.9.04]

Steve Cox, Ferry Manager, "I received a phone call from Gary Robinson of the Parks Dept. of Anacortes. He is concerned that some people are ignoring the NO PARKING signage in Anacortes. Unfortunately the Police Dept. has ticketed those folks that were parked in clearly marked no parking spaces. We tried to get Anacortes police to rescind those tickets but to no avail. Folks are reminded not to park in those pots clearly marked NO PARKING." [11.1.04]

Disabled drivers will have priority loading [on the limited car ferry runs, Monday through Thursday only].

At the head of the [Guemes] dock, form a line with flashers on, running East to West along Tidewater Road. Please leave the entrances to the parking lot open. All other drivers will be loaded next, first come, first served. [10.25.04]

Ferry manager Steve Cox says, "We will move the grader that is parked in the [Guemes parking] lot where the yellow house was and provide some additional parking for people.

Please understand that people park at their own risk. That should help. The grader won't be moved until Monday morning at about 6:30 am. [10.22.04]

"Manson Construction Company will be doing preliminary work commencing tomorrow 10/21/04. This work will not affect the Guemes ferry schedule. We will continue to run normal schedules through Sunday 10/24/04." Steve Cox, Ferry manager. [10.20.04]

Dolphin project delayed until October 25. Ferry service will continue on regular schedule through Sunday, October 24.

"The construction has been delayed due to mechanical problems experienced by Manson Construction and now will commence on 10/25/4." Steve Cox, Ferry manager. [10.19.04]

Skagit Valley Herald story 10.19.04

Dolphin project delayed one day. Ferry will run normal schedule Tuesday, October 19. Limited car service and passenger only service will begin Wednesday, October 20. [10.18.04]

Steve Cox, Guemes Island Ferry Manager sent the following information October 15:

We received following information from Manson Construction this morning:

The following runs of the Guemes ferry will be permitted during construction:

10/19 6:30am, 7:00am, 1pm, 5:30pm, 6:00 pm

10/20 thru 10/27 6:30am, 7:00am, 5:30pm, 6:00 pm

10/28 thru 11/3 6:30am, 7:00am, 1pm, 5:30pm, 6:00 pm

11/4 thru 11/15 6:30am, 7:00am, 5:30pm, 6:00pm

11/16 thru 11/18 6:30am, 7:00am, 1pm, 5:30pm, 6:00pm

We will run the normal 6pm run plus the additional runs as normal at the end of the day. After hour response will be available by the Guemes. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the ferry Guemes will return to regular schedule. Every effort will be made to allow any additional runs that can be accommodated, but the level and frequency of these runs cannot be determined due to the nature of the work being performed. I know this is different than what we originally thought but the construction company needs the space and time. For runs that the regular ferry makes, handicapped individuals will be given priority loading.

Temporary additional parking during construction will be the Kiwanis Park parking lot and angle only parking in the ferry holding lane on 6th Avenue as marked by temporary signage. Please do not block residents driveways.

Medical runs during the regular ferry outage will be from the boat ramp on Guemes to Wyman’s marina ramp in Anacortes and will return Guemes response personnel to Guemes after delivery of patients. Regular passenger only runs will be made from the Guemes boat ramp just west of the ferry dock to the Kiwanis Park beach.

I have made arrangements for the passenger only vessel for Tuesday, 10/19/04 through 11/18/04 to fill in as necessary during day. The well deck will be covered and I will have benches and chairs for seating. I will get plywood with non-skid on it for the deck inside especially for in the dark and providing access for special needs persons and the children.

Any question, please call me.

Thanks!

Steve Cox, Ferry Manager
