Ferry Service Out or Disrupted 28% of the Time

This chart maps the days on which the Guemes Ferry service has been out or interrupted (the black squares) since November 2004.

In October, November and December four dolphins were replaced. While the ferry did run on many of these days, service was often limited to less than half the usual number of car ferry runs and often as few as four runs per day.

The vessel's outdrive failed in January 2005 and the steering in mid March.

The outdrive failed a second time later in March and returned to service early in April.

Steering unit problems interrupted service most of the morning on April 27.

Steering unit problems interrupted service again most of the morning on May 1.

Steering problems interrupted service for several hours on the morning of June 29.

The passenger only ferry service since September 12 was itself disrupted by the failure to plan for beach landings at low tide (below +3). The Strait Arrow carried passengers to Cap Sante Marina, making ferry departures from either side unpredictable.

More than four weeks were added to the outage in October/November 2005. With this included, car ferry service was disrupted or completely unavailable 109 days out of 365 - more than 28% of the time!

A mechanical problem disrupted ferry service for several hours on November 10.

Unspecified engine problems kept the ferry docked all morning December 11.
