Guemes
Produce Exchange Off To A Productive Start!
The first Guemes Produce
Exchange was held at the Murray Read Pavilion last Sunday evening. Upwards
of 30 islanders attended to share and trade their produce with others.
Lots of veggies, eggs, baked goods, and other island products changed
hands, and islanders went home inspired to grow and make more things in
the future.
The exchange will
happen the first Sunday of the month starting at 3:30 PM at the Pavilion.
To promote and support agriculture and gardening on Guemes, bring your
garden vegetables, flowers, potted plants, seedlings, eggs, fruit, locally
grown meat or fish, compost, salal or other forest products, animals,
or any other island produce to share, trade, or sell. You don't have to
have large quantities -- bring what you have and exchange it for what
you want.
The format encourages
sharing or bartering for first hour; buying and selling for second hour,
if there's anything left. Please bring your own table or cart and chairs,
a generous attitude, and creative ideas about how to promote community
and a local economy. For more information, call Frea Woofenden at 293-7448.
